PocketMed Launches Pocket PC Charge Capture Software for Physicians and Healthcare Systems

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2002--PocketMed, a leader in the handheld medical software field, today announced the release of PocketBilling(c) version 2.0 for the Pocket PC platform. This user-friendly software allows practicing physicians to capture billing charges at the point of care, potentially decreasing medical and billing errors. Nearly 2,000 physicians are already using the Palm(c) platform version.

PocketMed is a pioneer in the charge capture software field, and holds the patent for this process that revolutionizes the way physicians can track billing and patients while making rounds. By using handheld computers and PocketBilling(c) software, physicians eliminate scribbling on pre-printed paper cards to be input a later time, resulting in more accurate, efficient billing and tracking.

PocketMed's president, Scott M. Strayer, MD, says, ``PocketBilling(c) markedly increases total revenues with increased charge capture rates. It accelerates the accounts receivable cycle and provides a simple interface for physicians to bill for and track their patients. By making this software available to Pocket PC users we hope to make this advance available to more physicians.''

``Today's challenging medical environment requires a secure, robust mobile platform, and Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PCs provide the speed and expandability that physicians need in their efforts to improve quality and reduce costs,'' says Ahmad Hashem, M.D., PhD, worldwide healthcare industry manager at Microsoft. ``PocketMed's PocketBilling solution will help physicians become more efficient and streamline the practice of charge capture.''

The software was used in a Saint Louis University study that showed a 13% increase in captured charges and led to a phenomenal return on investment (ROI) of nearly 10,000%. The study is being presented as an electronic poster at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems annual conference January 27-31 2002 in Atlanta, GA.

``While our competitors can claim an ROI of around 1,000%, we can increase this by ten-fold since we don't charge a monthly subscription fee'' said Strayer. PocketBilling(c) is available for instant download at http://www.pocketmed.com, offering a 30-day demo version. The full version software will retail for $49.99
